For the annual Outdoor Film Event at Strijp-S, I had the opportunity to design the official poster in collaboration with Natlab. This open-air event, held in the heart of Eindhoven, has become a beloved summer tradition where film, culture, and community come together.
The challenge was to create a design that not only informs, but also captures the unique atmosphere of the event.
My inspiration came from the nostalgia of 1950s and 60s American drive-in theaters — think neon lights, vintage cars, and warm summer nights under the stars. For this edition, that classic drive-in feeling was reimagined for a modern setting: visitors now bring their own chairs instead of parking their cars. This playful nod to the past, combined with the event’s intimate and accessible character, formed the foundation of my concept.
The final design plays with soft gradients, silhouettes of seated people, cinematic composition, and typography inspired by retro cinema posters. The goal was to create an inviting visual that immediately evokes the feeling of being outdoors, enjoying stories together, and experiencing the magic of film beneath the open sky. This project allowed me to merge graphic design with storytelling and atmosphere — something I always strive for in my work. The result is a poster that’s not only functional, but emotionally resonant.
